What is a home based carer?
A home based carer is a person approved by the NSW Government's Early Childhood Education Directorate to operate an education and care service from their home.
The key obligations of a carer are to provide a secure and nurturing care environment and to safely and punctually transport children to and from school.
Each carer can set their own days/ hours of operation and fees for service.
They may also determine how many children they wish to care for (up to 7), whether breakfast or afternoon tea is included in the fees, activities provided during care and whether they will transport the children on foot or by car.
All of these conditions and any others stipulated by the carer will be outlined in a service agreement signed by parents prior to commencement of care.
